Being goal oriented is a vital part of succeeding in life. Without setting precise goals, it can become very difficult to truly follow your path the way you’ve envisioned it.
There are a couple of steps that you can take to avoid running into hurdles when it comes to achieving your goals.
One of the problems that people run into the most is that they constantly wait for the perfect situation to begin something, but this can be very counter-productive.
We all like to keep waiting for that perfect moment, we think we’ll start when the circumstances are favorable, but I have to remind you, my dear friend, that the vast majority of situations do not become favorable by themselves. Just think about it, will a situation become more favorable if you don’t put some effort into it? There will have to be someone who works towards that situation in order to make it favorable, and it will have to be you if you want to make sure that it arrives when you need it.
A few years back, I attended an extensive course on business coaching; there were a ton of solid principles that we were taught during the workshop, one of the main ones was that “Progress is better than waiting for perfection.”
There are countless people who aren’t able to follow their dreams simply because they tend to wait for that perfect opportunity to show itself. They are seemingly waiting for all the traffic lights to turn green so they can start their journey from the comfort of their home.
It’s important to realize that small steps still mean progress.
Another really important realization to have is that waiting for others to agree with you shouldn’t be something to thrive for.
Many people fail to find success simply because they keep waiting on their friends to agree with their vision. It’s vital to remember that having others agree with what you’re doing has nothing to do with your own success.
I have a story to tell about a close friend of mine, she was a very bright student in her college years, and after completing her post-graduation, she got married and shortly afterward had kids. She’s been a homemaker since then, and these days she doesn’t have nearly as much free time for herself. A few months before she decided to start a brand new venture, she had a good amount of knowledge within the fashion industry. So she decided to start an Instagram page and wanted to become an influencer. She kept working hard and posting photographs, advertising on the platform. She managed to get tens of thousands of followers during those months and even started to promote a brand on her Instagram page.
Her closest friends kept telling her to drop it as there’s too much competition, influencers don’t make enough money, and brands offer products to influencers for shoutouts alone, not offering any money in return.
Ultimately she gave up, but the truth is had she only stuck with her plan, things would’ve been okay.
