Did you know that 80% of all plans that people make usually end up somewhere on a shelf, just rotting away after their creation without ever seeing the light of day? Most people also usually end up dropping their New Year’s resolution by week two of the New Year; isn’t that just bizarre. The problem is with the fact that we can focus as much as we want and have a well-thought-out vision and even the necessary steps to achieving our goal all written out, but at the end of the day, it’s not that simple. The single biggest thing that will hinder our progress and ability from reaching our goals is if we don’t have the right habits. If our habits are bad, then we’ll stumble on numerous roadblocks that we could’ve otherwise evaded.

There is a science to achieving what you want, and it isn’t in how much you’ve learned or how great your planning skills are. It has a lot more to do with simply dropping the bad habits that are constantly holding us back. Our habits dictate our life and our daily routine, and the things that we do can be sabotaged by our underlying habits if they are bad. If you don’t address your bad habits, then you’ll eventually start feeling frustrated and wanting to know why it has been so long, yet you’ve made so little progress.

Here are a few things that you can do to achieve your dreams:

Stop procrastinating

There is a saying from John Maynard Keynes that goes like this “The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping old ones”.
Although it may seem like common sense that procrastination is a habit that should be avoided but can you honestly tell yourself that you’re not at least to some degree guilty of procrastinating when you know full well that your time could be used more productively, as most people tend to procrastinate a lot more than they may actually realize.
Procrastination often has many causes, but the biggest one is thinking too small or creating a ceiling for yourself that is too low and doesn’t allow you to grow.
A mistake we often make is looking at others who are more successful and comparing their lives with our own, that’s unproductive to you, and you should focus on yourself.
Visualize stepping outside of your own body and head and seeing yourself as a bigger version of yourself which is looking back at all that you’ve been thinking, try to extend forgiveness and compassion to yourself and forgive that part of yourself that has kept you small, it was only doing what it thought was best for you subconsciously.

Don’t focus on the future:

It may be ironic, but if we focus on the future, we’re unable to be in the present, so try to take a deep breath and be with yourself in the now. The habit of living in the future will likely neglect your present and prevent you from going ahead. To get further in life, keep an eye on your future goal but stay present in the now. That is the key.
